The Sacramento Kings said that network infrastructure provider Boldyn Networks will lead a 5G upgrade for the distributed antenna system (DAS) at Golden 1 Center, according to an announcement by the Kings and Boldyn.
Though no date was given for the deployment, the press announcement said that the upgrade “will support all 5G spectrum bands and major wireless carriers” at the downtown Sacramento arena, which seats 17,608 for basketball games and up to 19,000 for other events.
From a market competition standpoint, Boldyn will apparently replace DAS Group Professionals (DGP) as the cellular network technology provider for Golden 1 Center. DGP, which was recently acquired by fiber concern AFL, designed and deployed the DAS for the opening of the arena in 2016.
“We are excited to partner with Boldyn to enhance our connectivity and elevate the fan experience at Golden 1 Center,” said Sacramento Kings president of business operation John Rinehart, in a prepared statement. “From streamlined ticketing to seamless in-seat ordering and cutting-edge AR/VR opportunities, this partnership will ensure the arena remains at the forefront of advancing technology.”
“Providing fans with a seamless experience at a live event requires fast, reliable connectivity,” said Boldyn Networks U.S. CEO Christos Karmis, in a prepared statement. “Boldyn and the Sacramento Kings both believe in pushing the boundaries for events. That comes with delivering a fan connectivity experience like no other. Our next generation 5G venue infrastructure will provide unparalleled access to advanced technologies that will help the Sacramento Kings, and their fans, take their game to the next level.”
