Third-party neutral host operator Mobilitie announced today that it has been acquired by BAI Communications, an Australian-based provider of telecommunication services in urban settings similar to what Mobilitie does in the U.S. market.
Though terms of the deal were not announced, press releases about the acquisition pointed to BAI expanding its reach for third-party neutral-host operations into the U.S. market, especially into the stadium and venue cellular business, where Mobilitie has continued to win deals even as DAS deployments face pressure from U.S. carriers. Most recently Mobilitie was responsible for the DAS deployment at TQL Stadium, the new home of Major League Soccer’s FC Cincinnati.
More as we hear more, but most likely this means that Mobilitie will now have more resources to support its business endeavors in the U.S. market. According to its website, BAI has extensive telecoms infrastructure deals in Hong Kong, the U.K. and in Australia. The BAI deal for Mobilitie is the second big consolidation transaction this month in the U.S. 3PO marketplace, following the finalization of Digital Colony’s acquisition of Boingo earlier this month.
