Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles has become the latest venue to embrace checkout-free concessions technology, with the addition of two stores using Amazon’s “Just Walk Out” technology. According to Amazon and the arena, the stores will be open this month for use at NBA and NHL preseason games.
By our count the two stands give Amazon 20 active or announced Just Walk Out deployments in sports stadiums, placing Amazon second in the checkout-free technology space. Leader Zippin (with 34 stadium stores by our count) most recently introduced a new streamlined version of its stores with four “Zippin Lane” stands that are currently in use at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
What is interesting about the Crypto.com Arena Amazon stores is that they are branded, one called the Bud Light Seltzer Market and the other the Michelob Ultra Market. To our knowledge, most of the previous Amazon stadium stores did not have any such sponsor activation. Zippin and the third major checkout-free technology provider in the market, a startup called AiFi, have had many such sponsor-labeled stores.
According to Amazon and caterer Levy, the Just Walk Out technology-enabled locations at Crypto.com Arena will sell beer, wine, seltzers, ready-to-drink cocktails, soft drinks, coffee, water and “other select food and beverage items.” From photos provided to us by Amazon, the stands are built into the existing stadium infrastructure, and are of a slightly larger size.
“We’re incredibly excited to collaborate with Amazon and Levy Restaurants to welcome Just Walk Out technology to Crypto.com Arena,” said Lee Zeidman, president of Crypto.com Arena, in a prepared statement. “We’re sure fans will appreciate this simple, safe and quick experience.”
