Q2 Stadium, home of the MLS Austin FC, will have an Amazon Just Walk Out checkout-free concession stand in operation as the next MLS season begins.
Called the ATX Market, the concession stand is Amazon’s 32nd stadium-specific Just Walk Out deployment, by our unofficial figures. Amazon trails market leader Zippin in the checkout-free stadium store count, as Zippin has 50 stadium locations. The Q2 Stadium store is Amazon’s first in an MLS venue.
According to a press release from Amazon, the store will not use Amazon’s Amazon One technology, which allows for checkout using only the palm of your hand. Instead, like other checkout-free stores the stand will allow fans to scan a credit card at the entry gate, then take whatever food or beverages they want and exit, with billing taking place later online.
According to Amazon and the team, the ATX Market is located at Q2 Stadium’s northwest corner, near The Zebra Gate.
“Austin is one of the world’s most important technology hubs and Austin has some of the highest rates of technology adoption across a range of industries, and bringing innovations like Amazon’s Just Walk Out technology to Q2 Stadium is a great way to ensure the venue continues to be a representation of the community it calls home,” said Austin FC President Andy Loughnane, in a prepared statement. “We’re excited to see this technology in action making the shopping experience faster and easier for Q2 Stadium guests.”
