Food, beverage, and retail management software company Appetize Technologies Inc. has added five Major League Baseball teams and 10 minor-league teams this season to its roster of baseball venues using the company’s systems to help power concessions and retail sales, according to the company.
The five new stadiums using Appetize software and technology this season are Dodger Stadium, Progressive Field, Fenway Park, Busch Stadium and Globe Life Field, bringing the total of MLB teams using Appetize systems to 15, according to the company. On the minor-league side Appetize now has 27 customers, bringing the total number of baseball venues using Appetize products to 42.
As we’ve covered several times over the past year here at Stadium Tech Report, the return of fans to venues for live events is driving a fast move toward more mobile, contact-free and cash-free transactions. With systems that support mobile ordering, standalone kiosks and POS terminals, Appetize has been well-positioned to take advantage of venues’ needs to make concessions and retail operations more contact-free than in the past.
While 12 of the MLB stadiums using Appetize systems are now completely cash-free, some of the others still are supporting cash operations. However, according to Appetize, only 3 percent of all transactions seen across its systems during MLB opening days this year were cash-based. Other popular concession-payment trends seen so far this year across Appetize MLB systems include mobile web ordering via QR codes, as well as self-service kiosks and greater adoption of Apple and Google Pay platforms.
