Checkout-free concession stands continue to proliferate at stadiums, with Amazon placing one of its Just Walk Out stores in Denver’s Coors Field and another pair at Marvel Stadium in Australia.
The trend of the fast-serve stands took off in 2022, and has not showed any signs of slowing down in 2023. For fans, the stores offer a way to get concessions and get back to their seats quickly, as fans can just scan a credit card (or use Amazon’s Amazon One system where they can scan their palm) for entry, select items, and leave, with billing taking place later online.
By our unofficial count, the three new Amazon stores bring Amazon’s sports-specific outlets to 40, still trailing sports market leader Zippin. Zippin, which has 56 stadium stores, recently announced five new MLB stores.
The Coors Field store is called the Coors Light Chill Zone, and is more of a smaller stand with mostly beverages and one small shelf area for snacks. What’s interesting business-wise is that the Coors Field caterer Aramark is also the caterer at nearby Empower Field at Mile High, where Aramark has installed nine Zippin stores.
According to renderings, the stores at Australia’s Marvel Stadium will be called “The Runner” and look to be larger-sized outlets. The stores there are not yet open.
