As expected, checkout-free technology supplier Zippin has added five stadium concession stands to its market-leading total, with new deployments at Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Progressive Field in Cleveland and Rogers Centre in Toronto.
Fans at Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore will have the easiest opportunity to try a Zippin checkout-free location, with two “Zippin Lane” drink-centric stands and a larger store as well. The drink-lane stands are called Fastball Markets, and will have mainly drink coolers as well as a small selection of snacks.
The larger store is called the B&O Market. According to the Orioles, some other concession stands will use the Mashgin self-scanning checkout devices this year, which like Zippin stores typically result in shorter lines.
Caterer Delaware North said that it had deployed one Zippin store at the Cleveland Guardians’ Progressive Field, another venue that will also utilize the Mashgin scanners this season. And the Toronto Blue Jays have deployed one Zippin store at Rogers Centre, named Tap and Go.
The new stores extend Zippin’s lead in the sports stadium specific category for checkout-free stands to 56 stores deployed. Amazon, which recently announced some new stores of its own, has announced or deployed 40 stores with its Just Walk Out technology in stadiums and arenas.
With great fan acceptance everywhere they are put in, deployments of checkout-free concession stands are expected to keep expanding this year, with some more expected from both Amazon and Zippin soon.
