The New York Mets have unveiled a new centerfield videoboard from Samsung Electronics that Samsung and the team claims is the largest in professional baseball.
The new board at Citi Field, which according to Samsung has a 17,400-square feet LED screen on the front and a 6,900-square feet screen on the back, is scheduled to be operational for the Mets’ home opener on April 6.
Stadium Tech Report is planning to visit Citi Field sometime this season, in part to see the new videoboard which is part of a multi-year deal between the team and Samsung that has already seen a lot of pixels deployed inside the stadium, including ribbon boards and other displays. We’re also interested in seeing how the Mets use facial authentication to speed up entry to the ballpark, among other attributes that are making the stadium a leader in technology deployments.
What’s interesting about the new “big board” is that it is dual-sided, with a smaller display on the back that can be seen from the nearby highway as well as by fans before they get inside the gates.
“Samsung’s state-of-the-art technology upgrades at Citi Field underscore our goal of providing best-in-class experiences for our fans,” said Mark Brubaker, chief technology officer, New York Mets, in a prepared statement. “The quality of these enhancements will not only provide our fans with more immersive and memorable visits to the ballpark, but it also positions Citi Field as a trailblazer in the industry.”
