What is the top concern of venues this year? According to the results of our Stadium Connectivity Outlook survey, the possible resurgence of the Covid-19 pandemic was easily the top answer among the 100-plus stadium technology professionals who participated in our survey.
Being able to safely re-open venues and figuring out how to deal with the diminished operating budgets (also caused by the Covid shutdowns from last year) were also top of mind in responses to a question about what the greatest challenges would be for venues over the next 12 months. From this summer into this fall, we’ve reported on how venues of all shapes and sizes are responding to the lingering effects of the Covid pandemic, with the surge of infections related to the more-virulent Delta variant and resistance to vaccinations spurring different reactions in different parts of the U.S. and the world. As fall winds into winter, we are seeing more and more venues follow the lead of teams and stadiums like the Las Vegas Raiders and Allegiant Stadium, where proof of Covid-19 vaccination is required for fans to enter.
The response to Covid is also informing other strategies and decisions being made by venues on the connectivity side, including an almost complete agreement about needing to install more touch-free options for concessions transactions, and also using more connectivity technology to help speed up entry to stadiums so that fans aren’t forced to stand in long lines close to each other.
