One of the world’s busiest arenas, London’s O2, is adding an Amazon “Just Walk Out” checkout-free concession stand later this summer, according to releases from the venue and from Amazon.
From the rendering provided by the arena, the new stand appears to be of the single-lane variety, built into a previous space on the concourse. According to a press release from The O2, the venue plans to add at least one more Just Walk Out stand later this year, with more potentially in the future.
For Amazon, the new store continues its plans for more Just Walk Out deployments across the UK, including stores at airports, convention centers and other high-traffic areas. Prior to the O2 deal, Amazon previously deployed a Just Walk Out store at SSE Arena in Belfast.
According to a blog post from Jon Jenkins, vice president of Amazon’s Just Walk Out business, the company plans to add “more than a dozen third-party stores in the UK” by the end of 2024. Jenkins’ blog post said the UK moves are part of a planned expansion of Just Walk Out stores overall for the rest of the year, which Amazon said will double its overall worldwide Just Walk Out store deployments.
By our unofficial checkout-free stadium-store count, Amazon now has 74 stadium-specific Just Walk Out concession stands, along with four RFID-enabled merchandise stores. Zippin, which recently opened a new store in Paris near the French Open, still leads the stadium-specific checkout-free count with 85 stores.
