Caterer Aramark Sports & Entertainment is bringing its expertise in new concession-stand technology to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, in part by adding a stand with self-scan checkout kiosks to the Pagoda Plaza area.
According to a release from Aramark (which also describes new menu items available for this year’s Indianapolis 500 race) the new “Refreshments Express” concession stand will feature 10 self-scan checkout kiosks using software from provider TapIn2 to allow fans to scan their own items before paying. Aramark has previously deployed the same kiosks (from manufacturer Olea) with similar software from TapIn2 at other stadiums, including Denver’s Empower Field at Mile High.
Like other grab and go formats, the stand at the speedway is a one-direction type alignment, with drink coolers, snacks and some pass-through shelves for hot items. According to Aramark, customers purchasing alcoholic beverages must wait for an attendant to check an ID before the purchase can be approved. As part of its new deal with the speedway, Aramark said it reconfigured an existing stand in the area to build the self-checkout offering.
