Fiserv Forum, home of the NBA’s Milwaukee Bucks, said fans at tonight’s home game against the Cleveland Cavaliers will be able to purchase drinks and snacks in a checkout-free fashion, thanks to a new concessions stand using Amazon’s Just Walk Out technology.
Called The Market by Michelob Ultra, the store is Amazon’s 24th Just Walk Out deployment in stadiums, according to our unofficial count. Like other checkout-free stores that have appeared in stadiums, fans will be able to either swipe a credit card, or also use the Amazon One technology that allows fans to use the palm of their hand to gain entry, with billing taking place after fans leave with their concession choices. Fans not yet enrolled in Amazon’s Amazon One program (which allows using your palm as payment identification) can do so at a kiosk outside the Amazon store, according to Amazon.
Checkout-free concession stands have been multiplying rapidly at stadiums this fall, to favorable reception from both fans and operators. Other technology providers in the space include Zippin, a San Mateo, Calif.-based startup which leads the sports market with 41 stands in stadiums, as well as AiFi, a San Francisco-based startup that has partnered with Verizon for some of its deployments.
