The trend of stadiums opening checkout-free concession stands seems ready to continue in 2023, starting with the announcement of two new Amazon “Just Walk Out” stores opening at the Texas Rangers’ Globe Life Field. According to Amazon, there will also be three new Just Walk Out stores at T-Mobile Park in Seattle, joining the one that opened last year.
Branded as the “Express Grill” the two stands at Globe Life Field will also feature the Amazon One technology, which allows fans to check in and pay using the palm of their hand after signing up for the service. Other fans can scan a credit card at the entry gates to the stands. Like other checkout-free stores fans simply enter with either their palm or a card, select the items they want and then leave, with billing taking place later online.
According to Amazon and retail partner Delaware North, the new stands will offer not just drinks but hot food items as well. The proposed menu includes cheeseburgers, hot dogs, bratwurst, sausage and corn dogs, along with beer, spiked seltzers, soda, bottled water, chips, candies and sundries, according to Amazon.
By our unofficial count, the two stores at Globe Life Field plus the three new stores coming at T-Mobile Park bring Amazon’s total to 37 announced or open stadium Just Walk Out stores. Market leader Zippin currently has 51 stadium stores by our count, including one just announced at Tropicana Field.
