The Tampa Bay Rays announced the opening of a Zippin-powered checkout-free concession stand at Tropicana Field, another sign that the checkout-free trend seen in stadiums in 2022 is continuing this year.
Branded the “Short Stop at the Budweiser Porch,” the stand will allow fans to enter the store by scanning a credit card, after which they can select items and just leave, with billing taking place later online.
By our unofficial count, market leader Zippin now has 51 stadium-based checkout-free stores, with some more new stores expected to be announced soon. Closest competitor Amazon recently announced two stores at the Texas Rangers’s Globe Life Field plus the three new stores coming at the Seattle Mariners’ T-Mobile Park bring Amazon’s total to 37 announced or open stadium Just Walk Out stores.
